Tag-a-rific!

Joseph has that baby affection of tags. If you are a tag: Beware! You will be hunted out. You will be grabbed and tugged and twisted. You will be slobbered on. You have no chance once he finds you.

Do you see what's going on here? He sees the tag on his lamb blankie and the tag on the pillow...such decisions! Which will it be, little man? If only he knew that he has ALL day to play with both tags!

Ahh yes, the lamb tag won out. Good choice! It's much closer; easy access!

What is it with these things anyway? I don't remember...

Caught me snapping away, did ya?! He is definitely my son. He knows there is always time for a quick smile and photo.

Sometimes there are innocent victims in the path of destruction. Like here where he chose to skip the tag and go for all that he could shove into his mouth.

And here where his bib is just as chewy and wonderful as anything else! What a stinker! He is just tag-a-rific in my book!

Smiles and Shots

Does anyone other than me ever pick up and hug the computer when you see a cute baby on the screen? Probably not. Especially if the baby is yours and you can just pick him or her up and hug them in person instead. And probably not because most people are a little more normal than me. But right now he is in bed and I am *this close* to hugging up our laptop!

Mr. Precious had his six month wellness checkup today. He handled it like a little champ. I got to drill Dr. Straughn with all my immunization/autism/toxicity questions and he was very kind about it all. It can become a lengthy conversation so after we talked for awhile he suggested that we make a separate appointment if we would like to talk about it more. I don't blame him since I know he needs to stay on schedule with his other patients. Anyway, Joseph got three shots and one oral vaccination. He didn't even know what happened on the first stick but the second and third kind of got his attention. He only cried for a few seconds then was smiling like normal. That was much better than the last round of vaccinations.

So, the official stats are:
Weight: 16lb 6oz
Length: 26.5 in
Up from 14lb 4oz and 24.25 in on his four month checkup. I think he is going to be tall and thin like his dad if he keeps up at this rate.

All is well on the home front and we are ready for a great weekend! Are you? Hope to get some gardening and relaxation in. Have a nice weekend all! Talk to you soon. :)

Happy Half Birthday, Joseph!

Today we have the pleasure of sitting down with Mr. Joseph Taylor Blachly in honor of his six month birthday! We are very excited to have this time to visit and ask him some questions about his extraordinary life thus far.

Mom: Thanks for your time today. I know it's hard to take a break from playing to do interviews and photo shoots so I really appreciate it. Ahh yes, and Happy Six Month Birthday! How very exciting!

Son: Mom: You've come a long way since November 26! You've smiled, laughed, rolled over, gotten two teeth and had carrots for the first time! You have so many friends and people who love you and everyone wants your attention; do you have anything to add about your busy social life?

Son: Mom: Oh, Joseph, we are so partial to you too! I'm curious to know, is there anything you would change from the past 6 months? How does life measure up to your expectations?

Son: Mom: Wow! That good, huh?! That's excellent! But please hold still during the photos. You're making the shot blurry. Anyway...if life is going so well, then I guess we're doing ok? We've been wondering.

Son:
Mom: Cool! We'll keep on doing what we're doing! Sometimes we're kinda flying by the seat of our pants. Six months...you're getting so big. What other milestones are you looking forward to? Sitting up? Crawling?

Son:

Mom: Oh yes, I agree! They are all very exciting - I know it must be hard to wait but just take it one step at a time. My advice to you is not to rush it and enjoy the simple things. Things can get hard when you are older so you have to appreciate this time in your life! I envy how you don't take anything for granted and actually, we can all learn from you as much as you can learn from us. Thanks for your time this morning, Joseph! We love you and happy half birthday!

Son: Pffftttt, aaaaahhhh. Eeeeeeee!

The Attack Bird

Did I tell you about the bird that tried to attack us? It's not quite as funny as the attack roach, or the return of the attack roach, but still a good story. It goes a little something like this...

Once upon a time, on a Saturday morning a long long time ago, in a quiet and peaceful house, there lived a happy unassuming family. (Doesn't it always start out peaceful and unassuming?) I got up with Joseph and we quietly changed his diaper and got a bottle ready - we were going to let Josh sleep in for awhile. We sat on the couch and listened to the birds in the chimney like we so often do in the mornings. We have a happy little family of birds who live at the top of our chimney and I've come to enjoy the amplified tweets and flutters of their wings. Never mind that we've talked about how we need to get a chimney cap because surely it isn't good to have animals living in your chimney...heaven forbid a raccoon or rabid possum climb in there. They'd have to be really hard up to climb up on the roof and nest in there, yes, but still. Never mind that we've had a fire or two and I felt really bad that we were surely smoking them out of their warm and cozy home. And never mind that Josh tried to scare them off by lighting black cat fireworks in the fireplace. Which, by the way, is a REALLY bad and horribly loud idea. And didn't work.

It sounds like they are right in our fireplace sometimes which was really irritating at first and I would scream for them to "shut up!" some evenings after a hard day at work. So, this morning it sounded a little louder than usual - if that's possible. I thought to myself "How would that be possible? That sounds like a bird in the fireplace. That sounds like a bird flapping against the fireplace screen." Brain cranking...fog clearing...wheels are turning fast now...adrenaline starts pumping...then it clicks. And here I sat with my new baby just feet away from the attacking bird. And my jugular was exposed! He would go for my eyes next! And what about the baby!? I was scared and I did the only thing I knew how to do...I RAN! I set Joseph down on the couch and ran away! JUST KIDDING...I took Joseph with me. I ran right into the bedroom and screamed at Josh "There's a bird in the house!" Poor Josh. He was just trying to get a little extra sleep. He didn't want to have to deal with this. Why us?

We came back into the living room and stared at the fireplace screen. You could see the shadow of the huge flapping wings banging up against the glass and hear it thumping around. Oh man, oh man...what in the hell were we going to do? We debated getting a bed sheet-net-contraption. We debated just opening the back door and hoping for the best. Meanwhile...I was positive that he was trying to get to my new baby. We had to get him out! So we called animal control. Apparently they do get birds out of fireplaces. She showed up promptly and with a big net. She inched the fireplace screen back and stuck her net in there and wrestled with the huge, hawk-like, blood seeking, screeching animal. She hollered that we might have to call for backup. Then with all her might see reached in and closed the net and screamed to open the door! We followed her outside to see the.....sweet, little teeny tiny, soft and scared shitless bird take off into the sky. He was one of those small, round, cute little birds - kind of like a little sparrow or something. And we jumped up and down and clapped and slapped her on the back for being such a hero that morning.

Then she suggested two things to us:
get a chimney cap "because next time it could be a squirrel..."
and CLOSE THE FLUE!

Please! Close the flue?! Please! Of course the flue is closed! We wouldn't knowingly leave the flue open during the whole winter letting warm air out. We wouldn't knowingly leave the flue open with a family of birds living up there! We're not that silly...are we? So how would the bird have gotten down there anyway? We decided to check it "just in case". I crawled in the fireplace with a flash light and the flue was open. Wide open and just calling out for little scared birds to fly in our house. We still don't have a chimney cap (yet) but at least the flue is now closed so no more man eating attack birds can get in.

Desperate Housewives Fans Enter Here

Can I get a collective "whaaaaaat?" I went to bed thinking about this one. I woke up thinking about it too. What a whammy of a season finale!

Five years later? Is it all just a cutesy ending to the season or will it really pick back up five years later?

But first, could the writers have gotten any more gruesome in this finale? Adam looked like the hunch back of Notre Dame after a bar fight. And the real Dylan got crushed under a wardrobe?60 year old bourbon or not, I think they would have heard that crash to the floor. I almost cried with her little arm sticking out like that! So Katherine didn't want her aunt letting out that gem of a secret.

Thank god they got Kayla out of there...she almost single handedly made me quit watching because I hated her so much and HELLLOOO, Tom, could you have waited any longer to help out Lynette with that situation? How old was that evil little witch anyway?

Then, Gabrielle has two fat twin little girls? Gabby with no makeup on and in sweats? Gabby tried to steal a drug dealer's money? We all know better than that!

What was Andrew talking about? Of course we knew Orsen would end up back with Bree.

But, Susan is with some guy other than Mike? Who is this unnamed man? Where did Mike go? I like Mike!

I say good riddance to Edie...I could care less about that hussie, kissing every one's husband all over town. Well, in her living room mostly. I love those Wisteria lane gals - sticking together like that and telling her like it is! Good for them!

All I have are questions! We need answers! And we're going to have to wait until next season. What a cliffhanger...I guess these writers know what they are doing and how to get us back!

Just Laying Around

Josh needed a little gymie mat time the other day. I think he wanted a good gymie workout. I'll have to see if they make one in his size though. It may make his gymie mat time a little more fun and productive if he can fit under there better.

I tried to sneak up and capture this sweet dad and baby time...

...but I was caught! Those guys are best buds!

Grocery Lists

I found a funny website of grocery lists that were found. "Why?", this website explains, "because why not? It's interesting and silly and what other stupid things is the internet used for?!" I only looked a few because I was inspired to display my own grocery list for all to examine and analyze - and I had to rush over here to blog all about it! I take my listing as a serious weekly chore...and sometimes I actually remember to write down everything I need and don't forget anything at the store. Sometimes. I know I don't have to tell you guys what a great feeling that is. So without further ado, The List for Week of May 18th:

  • peanut butter
  • coffee
  • artichokes
  • sour cream
  • bread - flour tortillas - buns
  • butter, eggs, milk
  • here Josh wrote a phone number, in the middle of my list!
  • dry split peas
  • cooked ham
  • garlic
  • shrimp
  • snow peas
  • cilantro, parsley
  • bacon
  • edamame
  • swiss chard
  • ground turkey
  • zucchini
  • small honey mustard then I crossed it off b/c I decided to make my own so I wouldn't have a whole bottle of it...
  • celery
  • buns
  • cheese for port burger
  • buns
  • portobellos
  • pickle slices

Did anyone else notice I had buns on there three times?! I really wanted those buns. And guess what...I FORGOT them at the store. Hahaha - just kidding...I got some really good onion buns! Dang I am getting hungry.

I Mean Really...

...come on, isn't there an award someone can give this kid? The Cutest Baby Ever Award? Or some sort of hall of fame we can enter him into?

Because if he gets an darn cuter...Josh and I might seriously explode. We're loving this kid!

He is about the most entertaining little thing ever. It helps having really cool newly discovered feet "toys"!

But let me tell you about those sweet, chubby little thighs...

...and those sweet, bright eyes...

...and sweet, softy cheeks...

...and that sweet little baby tounge...

...and that sweet, serious face...

...and big ol sweet, happy smiles! This is one cute kid!

I'll Claim Him...

I let his dad claim him for some of the cute things he does and I'll go ahead and claim him for the mischief he gets into. Like yesterday when I found him rolled under his little chair.

Of course I laughed because he such a stinker - always rolling away! He was clearly into something good here, I could tell. He was really still and I could hear the crinkling...

Ha! Little Joseph found himself a good old fashion tag toy! He was really going to town on that thing!

But...this wasn't so mischievous after all. Just "creative" playing! I'll let his dad claim half and I claim the other half on this one. We have a deal that we have to share claim to the cute stuff. :)

This Picture About Sums Up the Week...

...not much going on around here. I've been doing very little. In fact I find it hard to believe that it's already Thursday. I say I'm subconsciously saving up energy for "something" - don't know what yet. The fortune cookie Gods from last night's dinner may have insight into what it is and they and tell me: You have an active mind and a keen imagination. Apply your ideas.

I told Josh he can't complain about any of my upcoming shenanigans because the fortune cookie has spoken and I've been ordered to "apply my ideas". Good thing the weekend is almost here since my imagination is so keen - I may need it to get some things done!

Alicia and Carmen Before and After

This is an action called Fresh and Colorful. I copied these steps from Pioneer Woman's Photography Tutorial. http://thepioneerwoman.com/ It's a slow process, but I am learning Photoshop a little each day. And Happy First Birthday, Carmen Jules!

The original photo wasn't the greatest, a little out of focus - but the fresh and colorful effect made the after picture very nice! I also erased the red spot on Carmen's head from her nap. Oh and it helps having beautiful subjects! :)

Look at What We Found!

We found a little tooth! Josh says "now he can eat chicken tacos!" I was so excited that I tried to capture it with the camera. I didn't get it but it made for some really funny pictures!!

Smiley Joseph now has a toothy grin. It's really little and really cute!

It's been several days now and it's just popping out more and more each day. And I think the one next to it is on it's way.

Although I wish I could have breastfed for longer, at least I'm not now!

Daddy came home, washed his hands and went straight in for inspection. We love that little tooth!

Thanks Dubya...

Did ya'll get your check from George yet? We got ours and I can think of a few things to spend it on to "help the economy".

  • A big, beautiful, exotic peacock for the backyard. Maybe even two.

  • A day at the spa with massage, facial, and mani/pedi. Also, perhaps an expensive mud or seaweed treatment would be in order since I am splurging.

  • A nice dinner out with my Joshie and Joseph. Definitely somewhere that uses fancy sauces - a bernaise or hollandaise or demi glaze or remoulade or mushroom sauce or duck sauce or anything else delicious; can be served in sauce boat or directly over meat. Must have cloth napkins and candles on the table.

  • A dinner out somewhere with a big pie selection. Pies and cobblers and crumbles, oh my!

  • Nice comfy chairs for the back porch.

  • Extra house payment. After all, I should think of a few practical uses.

  • Shopping spree at Hobby Lobby and Garden Ridge and Michaels.

  • Hot air balloon ride.

  • Photoshop book by Scott Kelby - I hear he is the cream of the crop when it comes to photoshop.

  • A maid. Please. Just to help me get caught up. Just to get an even playing field. Just once. Then I can take over.

  • Man, I can't think of anything else right now; my head is swirling thinking of having a maid come. I may be on to something with that...

Getting Lost in Blue Baby Eyes...
